How can I get free publications?
You can get one free copy of most of our publications through our online catalog.
What costs money?
There are single publications and bulk quantities publications where shipping and handling fees apply. Fees vary depending on the publication. When you select the publication and quantity, the fee is shown as the publication price.
In the same order, you can combine free publications and publications where shipping and handling fees apply.
How can I pay?
The shipping and handling fees can be paid online by using Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover cards.
Checks from organizations are also accepted. There is a $25 minimum order to pay by check. We do not accept personal checks. Your order will be processed on receipt of check. If your accounting department requires an invoice prior to payment, you can send us your contact information and order via email and we will fax you an “invoice”.

Is there an easy way to look at all the publications you offer?
Yes. Near the top left of each page, you can select Publications A to Z by Title. This will bring up all our publications. To find out more details about each publication just click on the title.
What if the publication I want is not listed?
All publications that are currently in inventory and available for ordering are listed. Materials that are temporarily out-of stock will have a special notation.

How is my order sent to me?
Orders are sent through the US Postal Service and generally take 2-3 weeks.
We also offer a rush order service for an extra charge in addition to the standard shipping and handling fee.
Can I get my publications sooner than 2-3 weeks?
Yes. NEI offers a rush order service for orders placed through the online catalog.
The cost of the rush order fee is determined by the zip code of the mailing address regardless of the number of publications ordered. The rush order fee is an extra charge in addition to the standard shipping and handling fee. Rush deliveries will be sent by 2nd Day Air.
Using the 2nd Day Air service, the orders will be delivered on the second business day if placed before 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except federal holidays). Our shipping company does not deliver to U.S. territories, post office boxes or military postal addresses APO/FPO.

Are your publications copyrighted?
No. Our publications are not copyrighted and may be reproduced without permission. However, we do ask that credit be given to the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health.
Do you ship materials outside the United States?
No. International orders are not available at this time, we only mail to locations in the United States and U.S. territories. However, most of our publications can be viewed online in full-text.
What about security on your website?
The security of the information included in your order is very important to us. We use the 128-bit Secure Socket Layer protocol to protect the security of your online order information. SSL technology encrypts your order information so it cannot be decoded by anyone other than NEI and contracted companies.
Once you enter the checkout page, your computer will begin communicating with our server in secure mode. You can tell that you are in secure mode by the following:

You will see either a padlock (Microsoft Internet Explorer, AOL, Netscape Communicator) or a solid key (Netscape Navigator) in the lower section of the browser window.
Only browsers that use the 128-bit Secure Socket Layer protocol are able to order through the NEI website. If your browser does not support SSL, you can get an upgrade at Microsoft’s or Netscape’s home page.
Under Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank limits your total loss and cannot hold you liable for more than 50 dollars of reported fraudulent charges. In the event your card is used in a fraudulent manner, you must notify your bank or card issuer immediately and in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
Is my privacy protected?
